Studies

The undergraduate programme of DFLTI is the only university-level programme in Greece for Greek-speaking translators and interpreters, and one of the oldest in Europe. The programme lasts for four academic years, includes mandatory and elective courses, distributed over eight semesters, two per year (winter and spring) and offers two specialisations, i.e. Translation and Interpreting. Students who have successfully passed the internal selection exams in Interpreting after completing the 4 th or 8 th semester of their studies can choose to attend the Interpreting specialisation. Those who wish can obtain a degree in both specialisations by passing the interpreting exams and completing the required number of courses in both specialisations, according to the Undergraduate Programme Regulation. Both specialisations provide a wide range of thematic fields and multiple choices. In the first two years of their studies, students are offered courses in the Theory and Practice of Translation, while from the 5 th semester onwards, they are trained in specialised translating and interpreting from a working language into Greek, and vice versa. The curriculum includes courses from various fields such as Translation Theory, Languages and Cultures, Literature, Intercultural Studies, Economics, and Law, as well as practical courses in Translation and Interpreting, where students become familiar with the new technological methods employed by contemporary language professionals. Throughout their studies, students also have the opportunity to apply and participate in the following national or European programmes: internship in Greece through the Hellenic National Strategic Reference Frameworks (ESPA) programme, Erasmus+ programme for studying abroad, and Erasmus+ programme for internship abroad. Upon successful completion of their studies, the Department awards the students with a BA degree and provides them with a diploma supplement according to the European Diploma Supplement, issued both in Greek and English.
